Croatia 2024 – Day One & Two – Up and Out

I know that it is not for everyone but we really like a trip on a cruise ship. I think that there are several reasons for that – firstly there is no opportunity to get bored as you visit somewhere different every day and secondly, it is all-inclusive – food, drinks, entertainment, bed the whole shebang. It’s easy but, of course, first, you have to get to the ship.

Day One

On this trip my parents accompanied us which meant some adjustments as while she is pretty mobile she is waiting for a hip op and can’t get around as well as she once did. We planned for this by contacting the holiday company in advance and arranging for special assistance. I’m not going to go through all the minutiae of what was needed but, instead, focus on the people we encountered at Luton airport.

I’m sure you’re expecting me to say what a nightmare it all was when in fact quite the opposite was true. Every person we came in contact with from the poor guy who was stood in the rain directing people in the car park to those providing transport around the airport itself were friendly, helpful and smiley. It was quite refreshing.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the experience at Corfu airport where they left my mother standing on the tarmac waiting for assistance and then promptly forgot about her. Not the experience wanted or needed. Anyway, once out of the airport all was fine. And, I know that Corfu is not in Croatia but that was our starting point – none of the rest of the holiday is in Greece.

Day Two

The second day of a Tui cruise is always spent at sea which means you have time to orient yourself and check out the restaurants etc before the action begins on day three. This means quite a bit of time sitting around and time I would have liked to have spent on the internet. You can pay for internet access which then connects you to a slow satellite connection or at least it would if their local network was working. Unfortunately, trying to explain that to reception wasn’t going to yield anything so I gave up and spent the day offline which was a novel but frustrating experience!
