Spain 2026 – Day Six – Cherbourg

I know, you have two questions:

  • What happened to day five? and
  • Why is Cherbourg on a Spanish cruise?

Day Five

Day five was another day at sea. This time no attempt was made to go behind the scenes or to take trip to the flicks. Instead, we contended ourselves with eating, drinking (tea) and walking the deck. The latter was not was easy as it sounds given the movement of the boat. One minute you’d be on the level and the next it was uphill and then downhill, you never knew where to place your feet next.

Cherbourg

Cherbourg is definitely in France, I know, I checked. It appears on this predominately Spanish tour because it is conveniently close to home and is our last stop before we return to Southampton.

It was an uninsipring view out of the window this morning looking across the water at the cross-channel ferries and the wider docks beyond. The vista also wasn’t helped by the grey clouds and drizzle.

We walked into town and then did a short circular walk around the sights in the centre of town – there weren’t many of them. What there were a number of were markets selling fresh fruit, veg, fish, bread and the like which is always great to see. There was also a massive looking Carrefour supermarket so the French aren’t completely immune from the chain stores.

We dodged the rain and made our way back to the ship for yet more food – I will almost be glad to get home and normal sized portions!
