Another one to add to my “I never knew that existed in Reading” list. This morning, we visited Green Park, where there was a free photography exhibition being held run by The Photographic Angle. No, I’d never heard of them either but this is what they say about themselves:
The Photographic Angle (TPA) stages photographic exhibitions that travel across the UK transforming otherwise unused spaces into temporary galleries. The exhibitions are open to the general public and admission is free. Each venue is open from 10am to 3pm daily on the dates specified.
In this case, they had taken over the ground floor of offices in 200 Longwater Avenue and another space off Lime Square. Within each were about 20 canvases showcasing photographic works by a number of artists.
As with every art exhibition some works will appeal and others not. This was no different. However, what was interesting was the use of empty offices as temporary exhibition space. I felt that this was a good use of the unoccupied offices albeit for only five days.
I’m not sure what The Photographic Angle gets out of it and how they fund the exhibitions and the “dedicated team of permanent staff members who ensure that all of our exhibitions are curated, marketed, and installed to a high and consistent standard” as the entry was free.
