Weyfest 2012

A couple of weekends ago I attended my first music in, well, decades. In the intervening period things have got in the way of attending any other festivals, such as work, children and liking my creature comforts. So when the opportunity to attend Weyfest presented itself I was keen as:

a) the line-up was good,
b) it was local so I could come home each night to my own bed and
c) it had “ample free parking” which seems to be a consideration for much of anything I do these days.… Read the rest

Trevor Horn et al Play Two Tribes Live

Trevor Horn is one of my favourite musicians/producers having worked on so many albums that I have loved. Now he is working with a number of others, including 10CC’s Lol Creme, collectively called The Producers.

As part of the build up to the release of The Producers album an amazing video has been put up on YouTube showing the guys playing Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Two Tribes.… Read the rest

It’s been years since I have been to anything that you might consider a music festival, although Hard Rock Calling might count I guess. My last “proper” festival would have been to Reading in 1988 when a very pissed off Ricky Ross, lead singer with Deacon Blue, declared “anyone else throws a bottle at us and we’re off” – you can guess what happened next.… Read the rest

Had a lads night out with a trip to see OK GO at KOKO, London on Wednesday night.

This is the first time that I have been to a concert with both boys which was great. It is also the first time that I have been to a pub with them, which was a bit weird – especially as Alex was drinking and I wasn’t!… Read the rest

One of the first bands I went to see during my student days at Portsmouth Polytechnic was Love and Money for which it seems I paid the princely sum of £2. From memory it wasn’t particularly well attended and the low numbering on the ticket on the left would seem to bear that out, or at least suggest that we were very keen and got in early!… Read the rest

Steve Hackett @ Shepherds Bush Empire 2010

I don’t know about you but the last thing one tends to expect at a Steve Hackett concert is a man in a dress playing the bass. Ok, so in the end it wasn’t a dress but more of a frock coat but even so it came as a bit of a surprise.

Crowded House, Hammersmith Apollo, 9th June 2010And this is what Crowded House look like when at Hammersmith last night.

Yes I was back to see them once again and for the last time on this tour (probably). Once again they were great, playing some unusual tracks (“Recurring Dream” anyone?), as well as plenty of crowd pleasers.… Read the rest
